James Caldwell to Speak at the 2009 ACI Convention

James “Leroy” Caldwell, P.E. has been selected to speak at the Fall 2009 American Concrete Institute Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana, November 8-12th.
Caldwell’s presentation on “Overhang Forming Design Calculations” will take place Sunday, November 8th at the New Orleans Marriott. Overhang forming and bracket placement is a commonly overlooked calculation and if not done properly can lead to costly project failures, as well as site injuries. Caldwell’s presentation will address how overhang brackets behave under various loading conditions and the appropriate procedures for performing the design calculations.
This years Convention entitled “Spice Up your Concrete”, will be held in culturally rich city of New Orleans, Louisiana. The city is anxiously awaiting the conference’s arrival, as their original conference was canceled due to hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Caldwell has a Masters of Engineering in Civil Engineering Structures and Applied Mechanics from UT Arlington and has been in the construction industry for over 40 years. He is also the designer of the widely used “Gyro Lift” lifter, a standard in tilt-up construction. Caldwell currently works for CMC Construction Services as a senior engineer overseeing several tilt-up construction projects the company is currently involved with.
Zimmerman Bridge Replacement

Spartanburg, South Carolina
The Zimmerman Bridge in Spartanburg, South Carolina is being replaced because of significant signs of deterioration. The current bridge is over 40 years old and is unable to accommodate the amount of traffic on the bridge. The new bridge will increase motorist safety and accommodate the large vehicles that utilize the roadway.
Donald Jackson (81) worked with the contractor to supply all construction products on this job including Shep 1107 Premium Grout and Shep Poxy.
The new 60 ft. bridge is being constructed using Meva Imperial. All forming material and concrete accessories are being shipped from our branch in Greer, SC.
The new Zimmerman Bridge is expected to be complete in January 2010.
NASCAR Comes to Conroe, TX

Conroe, Texas
Wednesday, September 2nd, our branch in Conroe hosted the #26 IRWIN Industrial Tools NASCAR which is currently driven by Jamie McMurray. IRWIN representatives were on site to hand out promotional items and host a giveaway for an autographed replica NASCAR helmet.
The branch also featured masonry displays by Marshalltown and Headwaters Construction Materials. Bill Willingham who has an extensive background in scaffolding is promoting our scaffolding and masonry capabilities throughout metro Houston.

Natural Gas Compressor Installation

Collbran, Colorado
Outside of Collbran, Colorado, Wyoming Welding is installing two 16-cylinder natural gas compressors. The compressors are being set up on private property at an 8,700 ft elevation. Delta Petroleum owns and will operate the compressors to target reservoirs that demonstrate predictable geology over large areas.
Brian Bennett (77), is working with Wyoming Welding to provide 125 units of Five Star DP Pump Grade Epoxy Grout per compressor unit.
