James “Leroy” Caldwell, P.E. has been selected to speak at the Fall 2009 American Concrete Institute Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana, November 8-12th.

Caldwell’s presentation on “Overhang Forming Design Calculations” will take place Sunday, November 8th at the New Orleans Marriott.  Overhang forming and bracket placement is a commonly overlooked calculation and if not done properly can lead to costly project failures, as well as site injuries.  Caldwell’s presentation will address how overhang brackets behave under various loading conditions and the appropriate procedures for performing the design calculations.

This years Convention entitled “Spice Up your Concrete”, will be held in culturally rich city of New Orleans, Louisiana.  The city is anxiously awaiting the conference’s arrival, as their original conference was canceled due to hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Caldwell has a Masters of Engineering in Civil Engineering Structures and Applied Mechanics from UT Arlington and has been in the construction industry for over 40 years.  He is also the designer of the widely used “Gyro Lift” lifter, a standard in tilt-up construction.  Caldwell currently works for CMC Construction Services as a senior engineer overseeing several tilt-up construction projects the company is currently involved with.
