Customer Appreciation Luncheon

Amarillo, Texas

Branch 18 in Amarillo recently held their first Customer Appreciation Cook-out. Area contractors were invited to attend a luncheon prepared and served by branch employees. 225 customers were treated to a brisket, sausage and ribs barbeque lunch with all the sides. Raffle prizes were given out that included minor league baseball tickets and several tools.

Area Manager, David Zint noted that his branches are making an effort to stay in front of contractors and build their customer base in a down market, positioning themselves for a major advantage on the upside.

University Health System Parking Garage

San Antonio, Texas

This is the University Health System (UHS) Parking Garage in San Antonio. It will be a 10 level, 1,000,000 ft2 garage constructed in the “Hybrid” method of pre-casting and setting columns and beams, then the decks are poured in place.

Our customer is Urban Concrete Construction. I am doing formwork for the Elevator Cores with KLK (shown above) and we are providing Imperial with STB Brackets for 3-sided Pilasters poured against temporary retaining wall system.

Rudy Gonzales (02) is selling inserts for the precast items as well as multitudes of other products.

Houston South Yard and Warehouse Employees

Houston, Texas

The CMC Construction Services warehouse and yard employees at Houston-South have an important job. These employees get the customers the products they need quickly so that they can be on their way and back to the jobsite. These employees load will-call trucks and prepare trucks to transfer products to other branches.

Other areas that are continually in operation are rebar fabrication, the production of redwood headers and stakes and receiving and verifying shipments are continually in process every day.

Big thanks to all warehouse and yard employees in all of the CMC Construction Services branches.

Hurricane Season Is Here Get Prepared

Houston, Texas

Hurricane season for the Gulf of Mexico and western Atlantic begins June 1 and lasts through November 30.  The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued its 2010 hurricane season forecast earlier this year, predicting one of the strongest seasons on record.

With several of our branches along coastal waters, many are setting displays with a suggested product list for customers. Houston-South’s dynamic display sits at the front of its showroom and includes generators, water coolers, gas cans and other products necessary when preparing for a storm.

Houston Northwest Face-Lift

Houston, Texas

Our Houston-Northwest branch recently remodeled their showroom. The goal was to create a cleaner, less cluttered showroom that will improve the shopping experience. By removing one row of gondolas, each aisle went from 4 feet to 6 feet giving more space for the customer to shop throughout the showroom.

With wider aisles Inside Sales has a better view of the entire showroom floor and can better direct customers to the products they are looking for.

Houston-Northwest also removed product from its windowsills allowing for more natural lighting in the showroom. By removing product from the windows the showroom will have more light and will appear larger to customers looking for products.

Thanks to everyone from Supply Chain, Marketing and Branch 53 who participated in the remodel.

2010 AIA Sandcastle Competition

Galveston, Texas

The 24th Annual AIA Sandcastle Competition was held June 5th in Galveston, TX. This event attracts teams of architects, designers, engineers and contractors from all over the world and is one of the biggest of its kind.  The competition featured 80 teams competing for the “Golden Bucket” award along with other prizes.

This year, CMC Construction Services representatives worked with local teams to supply Shep Tube, Steel-Ply Forms and Column Cast, a new cast in place concrete post/column system from Caraustar.

Thanks to John Ballard (53), Kenneth Jowers (51) and Spanky Boutell (51) who helped coordinate products for several teams participating in the competition.
