Texas State Highway 19

Huntsville, Texas

Huntsville, Texas

In 2012, Smith & Company started work on a $14.36M highway construction project just outside of Huntsville, Texas. The complete project consists of four lane highway improvements on SH19, including exit and entrance ramps between IH-45 to Hwy 30. Pictured above are the columns that will be used to hold the road signage along the highway.

These columns were designed using job built ¾” plywood face, aluminum stiffeners, 20 mm tie rods with plate washers, flange nuts and channel collars.  They are braced with Shepler’s pipe braces each side. The columns are tapered, 26’ high with a 4’2” ID base and 2’9 ID top.  CMC Construction Services supplied the fabricated rebar, forms and chemicals including form release and Simpson anchoring epoxy.

We would like to say thank you Debra Samson (55) for providing the story and images for this project.
