Cajun Field is Growing – Lafayette, LA

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is expanding Cajun Field. The goal of the project is to modernize the stadium and increase seating capacity.

The first of five construction phases is set to be completed this September. Phase 1 includes adding 5,900 seats to the South End Zone, a new concession area, and restroom facilities. This phase will also add a new 30’ x 54’ HD scoreboard.

Rena Sanders, from our Baton Rouge location, has worked closely Lemonine Company on this project to supply waterproofing materials, hand tools, grouts, cures and other chemicals for this $21 million project.

Baton Rouge General Hospital Expansion

Slated for completion in early 2014, Baton Rouge General Hospital is building a state-of-the-art medical office tower on its Bluebonnet Campus. This $29 million 5 story structure will add 105,000 sq. ft. of medical and administrative office space.

Rena Sanders (41) is working with Milton J. Womack Incorporated on this project, and thus far has sold Stego Wrap, W. R. Meadow’s 1100 cure and Prosoco R-Guard.

Jackson Street Bridge Rehabilitation

The $5.4 million Jackson Street Bridge rehabilitation project began in September and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. This project involves repairing the bridge’s mechanical and electrical systems, widening sidewalks, installing handrails and performing structural deck repairs.

Gene Couvillion (47) has worked with Cecil D. Gassiott Contractors to provide an assortment of products including bar supports, dowel baskets and geotextile fabric just to name a few. This project has been a joint effort between our Alexandria and Baton Rouge location to also provide the overhang bracket system for this jobsite.

2013 Baton Rouge and New Orleans CMC Service Awards

Service Awards are given each year in the spring to honor the dedication and commitment employees have given to Commercial Metals Company (CMC). Each year awards are presented to employees that have been with CMC for 5, 10, 15, 20 or 30 years. This past week Service Awards were presented to employees in our Baton Rouge and New Orleans locations.

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development Transportation Conference

In February, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development held its Biennial Transportation Conference in Baton Rouge. Compromising of LA DOTD employees and private engineers over 1,500 attendees came to the conference for continuing education and Personal Development Hours. The conference also brings in experts from all over the country to speak about issues facing the transportation industry.

Dean Hughes (41) from our Baton Rouge branch and other employees from CMC Construction Services participated in the vendor exhibition portion of the conference promoting products that we manufacture and sale for the transportation industry.

Baton Rouge/New Orleans AGC Charity Golf Tournament

CMC Construction Services recently sponsored the Baton Rouge/New Orleans AGC Charity Golf Tournament that supports the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Members of the Baton Rouge/New Orleans AGC Chapters believe in giving back to the community and this year’s tournament raised $11,000 for JDRF. In addition to being an event sponsor, Dean Hughes (41) served on a committee to help organize the day’s activities.

Hughes said, “I am glad that we work for a company that is willing to support efforts like this, it really shows the character of our company. Events like this help us to further our relationships with our customers so that we become the ‘Go To’ resource for product knowledge, necessary inventory to supply the entire jobsite and the capability to make timely deliveries to ensure work is not delayed.”

South Louisiana Rail Facility

South Louisiana Rail Facility

Jefferson Davis Parish, Louisiana

The South Louisiana Rail Facility, LLC and the Jefferson Davis Parish Police Jury recently started construction on The South LA Rail Facility. This facility will feature a dual truck pit that can unload a truck in four minutes and elevators that can handle 25,000 bushels per hour.

This facility is located approximately 10 miles east of Lake Charles, Louisiana, just off of interstate I-10. It will be used by the surrounding southwest Louisiana rice farmers to get product to market. This project should be completed and in service by the end of the year, in time for the next rice harvest.

This was a team effort between our Baton Rouge rental staff headed by Cade Cothern (41) Rental manager, Houston South Rentals, Bill Nagy and his staff (51), Bill Sheu and the engineering staff, Bob Dozier (45) manager Sulphur, and salesmen Steve Wilson(41).  All worked together to meet the customers’ needs now and till the completion of the project.
