2013 TCA Tilt-Up Convention

This year the Tilt-up Concrete Association Annual Convention took place in Sugar Land, Texas September 30th – October 2nd. Each year this event brings together contractors, engineers, architects, suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, educators and developers from the tilt-up concrete construction industry.

The convention featured vendor displays, demonstrations and seminars. Demonstrations represented job site conditions where attendees could watch techniques and products in action while having any questions answered. The seminars featured top industry experts and allowed some attendees to receive training certifications.

SC Electric and Gas Operations Building

Charleston, South Carolina

Branch 82 in Charleston, South Carolina is working with Citadel Contractors on the SC Electric and Gas Operations Building, a new tilt-up construction project in Charleston. Donald Jackson (80) and Kyle Weeks (82) aka “The Dynamic Duo” worked with Jason Swagert (VP), Ted Powell (PM) and Superintendent Glen Griffith to provide the total package of construction products and services on this project.

2010 TCA Convention

Each year the Tilt-Up Concrete Assocation (TCA) holds its annual convention for tilt-up professionals to share ideas and learn new methods on how to grow their business. This year’s convention was held in Irvine, California and the theme was “Building for Disaster Protection”.

Jimmie Ballard, National Tilt-Up Product Manager and current TCA President said, “we were very pleased with the attendance at this year’s TCA Convention. While there were fewer exhibitors at this event there were significantly more attendees compared to last year’s convention. I think the program that was put together for this convention, as well as the quality of speakers, brought in a better audience than anticipated.”

CMC Construction Services Receives Five Tilt-Up Achievement Awards from the Tilt-Up Concrete Association

02.04.2010 – HOUSTON, TEXAS (Feb. 4, 2010) CMC Construction Services (CMC), a long time member and participant in the Tilt-Up Construction Association (TCA), was the recipient of five Tilt-Up Achievement Awards announced at the 2010 World of Concrete convention. The awards were in several different categories, including Office, Education, Warehouse and Manufacturing/Industrial Tilt-Up Construction.

Projects were reviewed by a panel of 15 judges representing all aspects of the TCA membership association (education, management and publishing). The buildings were judged on aesthetic expression, schedule, size, originality, finishes and special conditions, as well as the buildings ability to attract and hold the interest of architects and building owners.

In the Office Building category The Spaw Glass Construction Corporate Headquarters in Houston, Texas was chosen. This tilt-up building was the first LEED certified building in Houston. The SpawGlass Construction Corporate Headquarters building is a 20,000-square-foot corporate facility built to achieve efficiency and was completed in seven months.

The Osprey Fountains Residential Hall located in Jacksonville, Florida was recognized in the education building category. The building was constructed at the University of North Florida and is a 1,000 student residential facility is complete with 20 resident assistant rooms, four guest apartments, two area coordinator apartments, laundry facilities, lounges and study areas.

CMC was a part of two buildings recognized in the warehouse category, The Keegan Center and The Office Pavilion, both located in Houston, Texas.

The Keegan building was built by the End Hunger Network and is now part of the Houston Food Bank – the largest source of free and low-cost food for hungry people in 18 southeast Texas counties. On the side of the building facing I-45, the words ‘End Hunger’ are cast in red corrugated sheet metal, and the exterior of the building is painted to resemble a plaid tablecloth, which creates a unique fun appearance for all those who pass by.

The Office Pavilion was constructed to function as a showroom for Office Pavilion products. Along the length of the front facade, horizontal red sunshades help define the entry into the building. Theses sunshades are not only integrated with the exterior of the building but continue into the interior as a exhibition space for Office Pavilion products.

Advance Polybag, Inc. in Sugarland, Texas was awarded the Tilt-Up Achievement Award in the manufacturing/industrial category. This 165,000 square-foot building includes office space, manufacturing and warehouse space for a manufacturer of plastic bags.
