Huey P. Long Bridge Widening

Louisiana

The Huey P. Long Bridge opened in 1935 and was the first crossing over the Mississippi River. The bridge allowed for both car and railroad traffic through New Orleans. After Hurricane Katrina, in 2006, the state of Louisiana embarked on a seven-year project to widen the bridge. The project will add an additional travel lane and inside and outside shoulders on each side.

John Humbrecht (43) is working with Kiewitt Massman Traylor Constructors on this project and has sold slab and beam bolsters, form release, curing compound, joint sealants, epoxies, forming hardware, bonding agents, grouts, overhang brackets, geotextiles, and power equipment on this project.

Houston Dynamo Stadium

Houston, Texas

The Houston Dynamo Soccer team will be moving into a new 22,000-seat stadium next spring. The one concourse stadium will give fans a close view of the action with only 8 rows of seats separating the suite level from the field. This will give fans the closest view from the suite level in Houston and in the country.

Manhattan Construction is the General Contractor and JLG Structures is the concrete subcontractor. This project includes both poured in place and tilt-up elements. CMC Construction Services has provided products for the slab package which include expansion joint material, vapor barrier and cure as well as several other products. CMC Construction Services is also providing Power Shep Lift inserts, brace inserts, bondbreaker and engineering services (both embed layout and lift & brace design for the tilt-up panels. The panel engineering on this project is very complex since some of the panels are set at different angles and the reveal in the face of the panels also runs in random lengths and angles. Once the wall panels are lifted the reveal pattern will simulate a soccer ball.

Spanky Boutell (51) is working with JLG Structures on this project and Carlos Duarte (Houston – Engineering) is involved with the engineering and is in direct contact with the project manager and superintendent on site.

Memorial Drive Improvements

Bixby, Oklahoma

The City of Bixby contracted 2000 ft. of sidewalk with a colored border. The specs for the project specified color hardener being thrown to create the colored border. Steve Roberts and Dana Todd, Tulsa location, held a hands-on demonstration of integral color and stamps to show Tri-Star Construction it was a better solution than using powdered color hardener.

Once the job was complete the Superintendent was pleased with how quick, easy and less messy the product was compared to using bagged powdered integral color. Dana Todd also sold expansion joint, Visqueen and sealant on this project.

Tom Brown (Area Manager) said, “This hands on service after the sale is what our competitors do  not do for customers and that is why we are beating them!”

Thanks to Dana Todd and Steve Roberts for their hard work and commitment.
